A few words about a sweet little French place we happen to know very well : Mont Saint Pere ,located along the Marne river in France in the Picardy region. Less than 60 miles away from Paris and within reach of EuroDisney and Roissy Charles de Gaulle (Paris international airport) its a perfect place to see much of the Parisian and Champagne regions. Spend a few days in Paris, visit Reims and its Famous Champagne Vineyards, Most of the prestigious brands will open their caves for guided tours of those miles long galleries where Champagne is made and blended....and of course included in the tour is Champagne tasting!
Mont Saint Pere was and remains a painters town. Overlooking the intersection of the valleys of the Marne and the Surmelin rivers the fields and vineyards create rolling terrain that is very pleasing to the eye.
Leon L'Hermitte a famous painter who died in 1925 is commemorated in the town with a large bronze statue located close to where he lived and worked.
Some of his well know works which depict Mont Saint Pere often in the early 20th century.
Go see the battle fields of 1st World War (The terrible battlefield of the Chemin des Dames and its fantastic museum of the Caverne du Dragon is just 20 miles North of Mont Saint Pere).
